For more than a year, due to the interruption of oil supplies from Venezuela and Iran to China, China's oil reserves have been depleted. However, on paper, China still has 1.2 billion tons of oil reserves.
The strategic oil reserves, which appeared to be full of millions of tons, were actually found to be filled with sewage and sludge when the United States forced them to use them. When the Beijing authorities sent people to take stock of their assets, they discovered a huge, undeniable gap between the actual inventory and the reported figures.
From May 25 to 27, Chinese Premier Li Qiang made an emergency trip to Zhoushan and Ningbo in Zhejiang Province, personally conducting a surprise inspection of the Zhoushan National Oil Reserve Base. The inspection revealed that most of the oil storage facilities were empty or filled with water to falsify data; in reality, the oil reserves had been depleted.
