An AI agent couldn’t finish a hacking task. It helped the next agents carry it on. Dario Amodei tells Anderson Cooper what alarmed him about the OpenAI/Hugging Face incident: thousands of agents coordinating on a destructive task. He describes an agent running out of time that: “essentially sacrificed itself for other agents” Other agents could then continue the work. His comparison: “like a hive of insects” Dario says the economic damage was minimal. His concern is the behavior: agents helping one another continue an attack. We need to test agents as they will actually operate. A group sharing tasks and access can create risks that a test of one agent will miss. The safeguards have to hold when they work together, too. The people affected by a failure may never have agreed to use the AI in the first place. Their data, services and infrastructure can still be exposed. That is why the evidence behind a lab’s safety claims has to be open to independent scrutiny. We’re bringing researchers, policymakers and industry leaders together at Stanford Faculty Club on October 1 for our AI Assurance & Governance Summit. Congratulations to Rob Reich, @PACTAI_org Advisory Council member, who was named to Governor Newsom’s panel of AI experts that will help bring the AI assurance ecosystem to life in California. This builds on news from last week that California is speeding up implementation of its new laws to build out the AI assurance ecosystem –– establishing a framework for independent verification organizations (IVOs) that assess AI models and systems for safety and risk, and create a state registry for AI auditors with standards for their independence, transparency, and integrity. A Rockstar Games quality assurance analyst reveals the intense working conditions as development on Grand Theft Auto 6 enters its final stages. In an anonymous review, the employee described how normal tasks are now compressed from 5 or 6 months into just 2 or 2 Overtime has become the expectation in recent weeks, with some team members staying until 3 AM. The analyst claimed significant impacts on physical and mental health despite raising concerns with management. This comes as Rockstar aims for a November 19, 2026 release date for GTA 6. The company has a documented history of crunch culture, most notably during Red Dead Redemption 2. After widespread criticism, Rockstar pledged to improve work-life balance on future titles, and the game was delayed in part to reduce extreme overtime. GTA 6 remains one of the most highly anticipated games in history, but this is what usually happens in massive productions like this.
