Capcom has teased the possibility of a future Resident Evil game set in Japan for the first time in the franchise’s history. In a recent interview with Japanese outlet Futaman, Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa revealed that the idea has been discussed within the development team for years. “Since the development team is primarily based in Japan, I think every member has given it some thought. While Japan hasn’t appeared as a game setting so far, it might make an appearance at some point in the future.” Resident Evil has never had a mainline game set in its home country.

Capcom has stated that generative AI “still cannot match” the skill of human developers behind major franchises such as Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. In a recent update, the company emphasized its commitment to human creativity for game content, confirming: “We will not implement assets generated by AI into our games.” Instead, Capcom plans to use AI as a supportive tool to boost efficiency and productivity, particularly in testing and repetitive development tasks that do not involve final creative output.

Capcom’s latest fiscal report confirms that PC has been the company’s top sales platform for three straight years. For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026,: >PC sales reached 32.17 million units, accounting for 58% of total game sales. >Consoles followed with 22.76 million units. >Digital sales made up 93% of the total across all platforms. Capcom CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto stated, “I believe that the PC will further establish itself as the world’s leading gaming platform, which will serve to increase the value of the PC market.” Via:

Capcom producer Masato Kumazawa has spoken about the backlash over NVIDIA's DLSS 5 AI demo for Resident Evil Requiem. In March, NVIDIA showed DLSS 5 using footage from the game. The AI version changed Grace’s face by giving her fuller lips, more makeup, and a smoother look. In a new interview with Eurogamer today, Kumazawa said the strong fan reaction was actually a good thing. He explained: "The fact a lot of players commented they really liked the original design of Grace and didn't want to see it changed was a positive. It meant we got the design right and points to the fact that Grace quickly established herself as a fan favourite, that people had such strong opinions on her design." Since release, Resident Evil Requiem has sold more than 7 million copies in two months. NVIDIA plans to release DLSS 5 in fall 2026 as an optional feature. Game developers will control how it is used.
