Ground beef just hit a record $6.89/lb, up 83% from its 2017 low. The US cattle herd has shrunk to 86.2 million head, the smallest since 1951. To fill the gap, the US imported a record 2.5 million metric tons of foreign beef, the most in at least 65 years.
