IBM's @Gary_D_Cohn pushes back on AI doom narratives.
He says he's got a bigger concern: a state-by-state AI regulatory patchwork that could slow America down in its race against China, rather than AI eliminating jobs.
IBM-BACKED ANDERON SECURES $1B CHIPS AWARD FOR U.S. QUANTUM FOUNDRY
Anderon, an $IBM company, finalized a $1 billion CHIPS and Science Act award with the U.S. Department of Commerce to expand R&D and manufacturing capabilities for quantum wafers in Albany, New York.
The company operates a 300mm pure-play quantum wafer foundry and is also backed by an additional $1 billion investment from IBM, bringing total announced government and IBM support around the project to $2 billion.
Anderon will manufacture specialized wafers used for superconducting qubit arrays, quantum input/output signaling and readout components, with plans to support additional quantum computing architectures over time.
The company says its first quantum wafers are already moving through the Albany facility, an early step toward taking quantum chip manufacturing from research-scale processes to commercial-grade production.
For IBM, the foundry is intended to provide the manufacturing capacity needed to support its quantum computing roadmap while also offering wafer fabrication services to other companies across the quantum ecosystem.
