"It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it" — Upton Sinclair I think this quote explains a lot of the coping that's going on, but I also think it's wrong! The failure to understand is what'll erase the paycheck.

It is depressing that the planet-loving Greens, who support things like eating lentils and planting trees, have faint-heartedly indulged the hard left. The party deserves to fall back into irrelevance

It's time to get real about USC in Big Ten football power rankings
“It is just a myth”, they said. A story passed down for generations, discounted by historians and archaeologists, turns out to be true. For tens of thousands of years, certain Aboriginal Australian traditions carried a quiet, stubborn claim: we did not begin here. The old people came across the water, in boats, from a country so distant it had become more rumor than place. Parents told it to children. Children grew old and told it again. The story outlasted languages, ice ages, and the rising of the seas that finally cut Australia off from the rest of the world. For a long time, that claim was filed under myth and left there. Then geneticists sequenced Aboriginal Australian genomes and set them beside those of their nearest living relatives, the peoples of New Guinea. The DNA did not show a people who had always been where the colonists found them. It showed an older journey. Both groups descend from a small founding population that left Africa, moved through southern Asia, and—somewhere in the island chains of what is now Indonesia—committed to the open water. They did not walk into Australia. They crossed to it, island by island, in watercraft sturdy enough to carry families, tools, and fire. Genetic estimates place that arrival roughly 50,000 to 65,000 years ago, long before the continent was anyone else’s colony. The scientific picture is not a transcript of any single Dreaming story. Oral traditions are not lab notebooks, and no genome can prove that one specific sentence survived unchanged for fifty millennia. What the genes do confirm is the hard part of the old claim: the crossing was real, the boats were necessary, and the people who made the voyage became the ancestors of everyone the first European ships later met on that shore. The remarkable thing is not that a laboratory “validated” a myth. It is that a memory of arrival by sea was still being told, in a land that had been isolated for most of the time since the crossing, when the sequencers finally switched on.

It’s often the stuff you haven’t even thought of that can create the biggest divisions.

It's a good time to remember the 5,000 armed vigilantes who took over San Francisco in 1856
it looks like Valve is also experiencing a ton of submission volume, just like the App Store i wonder how they're going to combat AI exponentially increasing submissions because right now App Store submissions take weeks to review (unsure about Steam games)
