BREAKING: KDDI has signed Asia’s first Starlink Mobile V2 agreement with SpaceX. The service aims to bring high-speed internet and native voice calls directly to phones across Japan’s mobile dead zones by the end of 2027. SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell: “We are grateful to KDDI for trusting us to deliver resilient connectivity to their customers with our next-gen V2 technology… creating a seamless experience for their customers no matter where they are.” KDDI CEO Hiromichi Matsuda: “Since 2021, our partnership with SpaceX has grown stronger and more ambitious… The Starlink Mobile V2 agreement marks a new chapter as we push the boundaries of connectivity and create new value for the future.”

A data breach at Japanese telecom company KDDI may have exposed the email addresses and passwords of up to 14.2 million accounts across six internet service providers (ISPs). According to KDDI, hackers gained access by exploiting a vulnerability in third-party software used by one of its email systems. The company says it blocked the attackers after discovering the breach and is working with the affected ISPs to improve security. The exact number of affected accounts is still being investigated. KDDI also said some passwords were stored in hashed or encrypted form, but it did not specify how many.
