OPENAI DEV DAY 2026 RECAP:
OpenAI just wrapped its biggest DevDay yet, with updates across ChatGPT, agents, models, Codex, plugins and enterprise products.
Here’s the full recap, roughly in order of what matters most:
1. Dots: always-on AI agents
This was probably the biggest product announcement.
Dots are persistent agents inside ChatGPT that can take on ongoing responsibilities, keep working between conversations and use their own cloud computer.
They can work across connected apps, run scheduled tasks and bring results back when they need your input.
Available for Pro and Business Premium, with Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare beta access.
2. GPT-6.1 Sol
OpenAI launched GPT-6.1 Sol, a major upgrade to GPT-6 Sol focused on agentic coding, computer use and professional work.
OpenAI says it delivers near-Astra intelligence at one-fifth of Astra’s standard input and output token pricing.
Available across the API and ChatGPT plans including Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu.
3. GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast
OpenAI introduced a premium speed tier for workloads where latency matters.
Astra Ultrafast can generate up to 300 tokens/second in Codex, around 8x faster, and up to 6x faster through the API.
GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast is coming next.
4. ChatGPT is becoming a platform for developers
OpenAI is opening more of the infrastructure it uses to build ChatGPT itself.
Developers can now create Plugin Extensions with their own sidebar presence, interactive interfaces and custom file viewers directly inside ChatGPT.
OpenAI is also improving plugin creation, submission, ranking and discovery.
5. Agents API gets computer use
The Agents API can now power agents that actually interact with software.
It also brings in multi-agent capabilities, tool search, tool calling and context compaction, while OpenAI handles the underlying infrastructure.
Amazon is also launching Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI, allowing these agents to run natively inside AWS.
6. Codex can now work basically anywhere
Codex can now run on your computer, remotely from your phone or entirely in the cloud.
Reusable cloud development environments let teams give Codex shared setups, permissions and configurations without needing a developer’s laptop running.
Codex also got:
• A redesigned CLI with voice control and multi-agent task management
• A new Code Review experience for GitHub and GitLab
• Automatic cloud code reviews while you’re away
• Codex Security Cloud for scanning repositories, investigating vulnerabilities and preparing fixes
7. ChatGPT Space
OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Space, a shared workspace where teams, ChatGPT and Dots can work together using the same knowledge.
ChatGPT can organize the workspace based on team instructions, while people and agents can continue work from the same context.
Available to Pro, Business and Enterprise users.
8. Pages and collaborative Slides
Pages are new collaborative documents built around humans and AI working together.
Inside a Page, you can write, research, generate charts and images, visualize information and collaborate with other people.
OpenAI is also adding collaborative Slides where multiple people and agents can edit the same deck simultaneously.
Slides can be presented inside ChatGPT or exported to PowerPoint and Google Slides while preserving formatting.
9. Teams can delegate work to ChatGPT
Business and Enterprise users can now create teams and share Pages, Slides, plugins and spreadsheets.
Teams can also delegate recurring work to ChatGPT, such as weekly project updates.
Those tasks can run on a schedule or be triggered by events like a new email or Slack message.
10. ChatGPT comes directly to Slack and Microsoft Teams
Teams can mention
@ChatGPT inside channels, threads or DMs.
ChatGPT can use connected company tools and context to answer questions or help with work without everyone needing to move into a separate ChatGPT conversation.
11. Plugins can now trigger automations
OpenAI is adding support for MCP Events.
That means a connected app can trigger ChatGPT automatically when something happens.
Example: a new task appears on a project board, ChatGPT reads the related documents and drafts a plan without waiting for someone to manually ask.
12. Sites can host plugins
Plugins can now be embedded into Sites built with ChatGPT.
Different teammates can use the same application with their own connected data and permissions, while automations can keep shared information updated.
13. Decisions API
OpenAI introduced a new API aimed at fast, structured decisions.
Developers give Luna context plus a predefined set of possible answers, and the model chooses between them.
Potential uses include classification, routing requests and deciding what an agent should do next.
14. Private Intelligence
OpenAI introduced new enterprise privacy infrastructure.
Zero Data Retention with Private Safety Processing allows automated safety checks without OpenAI personnel accessing the underlying content.
OpenAI is also previewing Private Inference, combining confidential computing with verifiable controls, coming this fall.
15. Meetings plugin
ChatGPT can now take meeting notes and save personalized summaries and action items directly into ChatGPT Space.
Those notes can then feed into other work, like updating a project plan or drafting follow-ups.
OpenAI says meeting audio is deleted after the notes are generated.
16. Sign in with ChatGPT
OpenAI is extending ChatGPT subscriptions beyond ChatGPT itself.
Plus and Pro users can use their plan allowance across participating third-party tools.
OpenAI says there are 16 launch partners, including Devin, Notion, Vercel, T3, OpenClaw and Dactyl.
17. New Pro 500 plan
OpenAI launched Pro 500, its highest-usage individual tier.
It offers 25x the ChatGPT Plus usage allowance and includes access to Ultrafast.
18. OpenAI Marketplace
Enterprise customers will be able to apply part of their existing OpenAI commitment toward approved third-party software.
The initial group includes 32 partners, including Adobe, Figma, Salesforce, ServiceNow, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Harvey and others.
19. Shareable profiles
Businesses can create profiles showcasing Sites, plugins and other things they’ve built, making them easier for other people to discover and reuse.
ChatGPT has now reached 1.2 billion weekly users.
