SanDisk has announced a new series of officially licensed SSDs designed for the PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro consoles.
The top-end 8TB model is listed at $2959.99, a 20% discount from its $3699.99 MSRP. This price is roughly three times the cost of a current PS5 Pro console.
The Optimus GX PRO 850P lineup comes in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB capacities,
Current pricing after launch discounts is $379.99 for the 1TB model, $759.99 for 2TB, $1,499.99 for 4TB, and $2,959.99 for the 8TB model.

SanDisk is set to launch its new 320 and 520 SATA SSDs, giving consumers more affordable storage options at a time when SSD prices remain high.
The new drives will be available in capacities of up to 4TB and use the widely supported 2.5-inch SATA form factor.

The Wekapod announced last week is built on Micron's PCIe 6.0 SSDs and I was wondering when we would get news of Kioxia's own PCIe 6.0 product. Its here, and will be showcased at FMS next week.

Samsung has created a working prototype of 900-layer 3D NAND memory by joining two 450-layer stacks using a new technology called Cell Multi Bonding.
This is a major step for the storage industry, as it could lead to SSDs with extremely large capacities, potentially reaching close to 1 petabyte on a single drive. Current high-end SSDs have much smaller capacities.
The technology is mainly for AI servers and data centers
Instead of one giant memory stack, Samsung combines multiple smaller stacks, improving manufacturing and reliability.

Motherboard manufacturers are facing a crisis in 2026 as PC builders delay or skip new system builds.
A Digitimes report describes the situation as a collapse in the sector, worse than previous financial crises or the early COVID-19 period.
Asus, the market leader, shipped 15 million motherboards in 2025 but only 5 million units in the first half of 2026. It is now targeting around 10 million for the full year, its lowest total in over a decade.
MSI, Gigabyte, and ASRock are also projecting sharp declines, with some estimates showing drops of 25% to 30% or more compared to 2025 levels.
The main reasons are higher prices for RAM and SSDs
As a result, many builders are holding off on new rigs entirely.

The pirate survival game “Windrose” had a serious hidden problem: it was killing your SSD without you knowing.
Normal gameplay like walking around your base caused it to write up to 108 GB of data to your SSD every hour.
This stemmed from an inefficient save system using RocksDB that created too many small files and constant disk activity, which could shorten SSDs life over time.
Players and YouTubers reported the issue, and dev Kraken Express quickly fixed it with a patch that cuts disk writes by 60 to 75% and stops unnecessary CPU spikes
