$QCOM UNVEILS NEW 2NM SNAPDRAGON CHIPS WITH BIG ON-DEVICE AI PUSH Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and higher-end Extreme Gen 6, its first 2nm smartphone chips. The biggest focus is local AI. The chips include a sensing hub that can run models up to 200M parameters for things like speaker recognition, personal memory and always-on assistants. The Extreme version can run up to a 30B-parameter Mixture-of-Experts model locally on the phone. It also supports 8K/60fps and 4K/240fps video, while both chips add AI-based voice isolation and noise reduction. Motorola, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Honor, OnePlus and others are expected to use the new chips.

Samsung just became the first to validate LPDDR6 on a Snapdragon. The 16GB chip hit 10.7Gbps on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, with power efficiency up 21% over LPDDR5X. Samsung says sample supply and quality validation are done and it's ready to ship on customer schedules. Meanwhile China's CXMT announced LPDDR6 in mass production earlier this month at 12.8Gbps, faster than the 10.7Gbps baseline, and Xiaomi's 18 Fold with its own XRING O3 will be the first platform to use it.
