Roku and TCL face a new class action lawsuit alleging that automatic software updates have rendered thousands of smart TVs unusable. The federal complaint, filed in Southern California, claims the updates cause devices to freeze, enter endless restart loops, display black screens, or fail to power on. Affected models include Roku’s Select and Plus Series TVs as well as TCL’s 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-Series Roku TVs purchased since mid-December 2024. The suit argues that both companies were aware of widespread customer complaints on their support forums yet continued rolling out the updates without adequate fixes or recalls. This marks the second major class action against Roku’s TV platform this year Owners experiencing these issues should document everything and monitor court updates for potential participation.
