TSA SCRAPS NEW GOLD+ PRIVATE AIRPORT SECURITY PROGRAM TSA is backing away from a plan that would have let private companies take over much more of airport security screening, including staffing, equipment and maintenance. Tampa, Charleston and Des Moines had signed on, but the Gold+ program has now been scrapped. TSA says it will instead expand a smaller existing program where private screeners work at some airports, while the federal government still sets the rules and oversees security. Source: NYT
