BioShock can now be played in co-op thanks to a new fan-made mod. BioShock Together lets two players explore Rapture and progress through the original campaign together. The mod brings multiplayer to a game that was originally designed as a single-player experience. The project is still in early alpha, so expect bugs, crashes, and other issues. Both players need BioShock Remastered on Steam and the same mod version installed. Players have already managed to complete the entire campaign together.

The BioShock movie is still in development. Director Francis Lawrence says the Netflix adaptation is still being worked on and that they’re “getting close” to figuring out the script. The main challenge is adapting BioShock’s world and story for a movie, especially because the player is the main character in the game. Lawrence called it a “tough nut to crack” and said the world is “pretty batshit in a most amazing way.” Netflix’s recent leadership changes could also affect the project, but Lawrence says he’s still actively working on it and would “love nothing more” to make the movie. The film was announced in 2022 and has since been reworked with a smaller budget. It will be based on the original 2007 BioShock.

The Netflix BioShock movie is still happening. Director Francis Lawrence says the team is “pretty close” to finishing the script, and he’s still very eager to make it. “We’re still working on a script and I think we’re pretty close, and I’m feeling really good about it.” “Yeah, I would love to make it. I’ve been like dying to. I’ve been working at it. I’ve been trying.” The adaptation was announced in 2022 but has faced delays due to the Hollywood strikes and Lawrence’s work on The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project was also reworked with a smaller budget

Ken Levine, the creator of BioShock, recently shared his views on new gaming hardware and pointed out that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Valve’s new Steam Machine are not big technological jumps. “Look at, say, the Switch 2 and even the new Steam Machine coming out. Those are not massive technological upgrades. That wasn’t their strategy. I think people are realising we’re hitting a bit of diminishing returns with that,” Levine explained that his team avoids ultra-realistic graphics because it is expensive and does not age well, preferring stylized art that lasts longer like in BioShock. He believes real innovation comes from strong stories, artistic choices, and meaningful player decisions rather than raw power, and his new game Judas uses this approach, similar to the success of Baldur’s Gate 3. “If you have the right art director and the right approach, you don’t need to be on the cutting edge of technology all the time.”

People may be waiting much longer for Judas, the new sci-fi game from BioShock creator Ken Levine. Recent reports connected to Take-Two Interactive suggest the game could still be several years away from release, with some estimates pointing to 2028 or later. Judas was first revealed in 2022. According to the developers, the game features systems where characters can change their behavior toward the player based on decisions made throughout the story. It takes place aboard a damaged spaceship filled with conflict and survival elements. Reports suggest the long development time is due to the ambitious scope of the project and the complex gameplay systems being built.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says he is “deeply disappointed” that it has taken over a decade for a new BioShock game since BioShock Infinite in 2013. “In retrospect, [we] wasted a lot of time and money chasing down some creative alleys that turned out to be dead ends,” he admitted about the project’s development at studio Cloud Chamber. Zelnick explained that “finding the right creative purchase was hard” and compared the process to large team activities in entertainment, where issues may not become clear until late. He sad is now “feeling a lot better” about the project after last year’s leadership changes, including veteran producer Rod Fergusson heading up the franchise. 2K has said it is “working hard to set BioShock up for the best possible future” and is “committed to delivering a great one” rather than settling for good.
