Japan’s 2025 census has revealed the biggest population drop in the country’s modern history.
The population fell by around 3.1 million over the past five years, bringing the total to about 123 million.
It is the largest decline since Japan began keeping census records in 1920 and marks the third consecutive census showing a shrinking population.
Despite efforts to encourage more children, the population continues to shrink at a record pace.

Bigfoot investigators call a former Census supervisor a “very credible” witness after she claimed to spot an 8-foot-tall Sasquatch in Northern California.🧐🤔
A Northern California woman says she spotted what she believes was an approximately 8-foot-tall Bigfoot in Fresno County in broad daylight, and investigators say they consider her account highly credible.
The reported sighting was submitted July 1 to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO), which classified it as a Class A sighting—the organization’s highest category for reports involving a clear visual observation.
According to the report, 72-year-old Linda Dixon-Smith said she encountered the creature around 11 a.m. on June 28 while driving her grandson to his summer job at Camp Chawanakee, a Boy Scouts camp near Shaver Lake.
Dixon-Smith said she noticed a large figure standing motionless in a grassy clearing beneath power lines near the intersection of Dinkey Creek Road and Camp Chawanakee Road.
“I saw a figure standing in the field,” Dixon-Smith wrote in her report. “Brownish red hair that I could plainly see skin through it. Small head like right on its shoulders. Long arms past knees.”
She said the figure never moved as she slowly drove past.
“It didn’t move. Stood frozen as I very slowly drove past,” Dixon-Smith wrote.
Despite headlines about return to office, a new analysis of Census data suggests that remote work has remained sticky the past two years. Read more about recent remote work trends in an article by analyst @haleychinander:

@GorillaToes1@WoodCarpenter80@tchil81@libsoftiktok The meme overstated it. US Census data shows ~23% of children live with single mothers (most single-parent homes are mother-led). The teacher stat is close at ~77% female.
Albania Records Historic Religious Shift
For the first time in nearly 200 years, Muslims are no longer the majority in Albania. The 2023 census puts them at 45.9%, down from 56.7% in 2011.
Christians were recorded at around 16%, though the Orthodox Church disputes this and says the real number is over 24%.
From St. Paul in Illyricum to Skanderbeg’s defense of Christendom, to Hoxha’s atheist state — Albania’s faith has survived centuries of change.
