Step inside the world's 10 most desirable penthouses.
New York architect Rosario Candela drafted the blueprint for penthouses in the 1920s. A century on, the template remains the same, and in these world-class locations they’re some of the most desirable places to call home.

On today's Coffee House Shots podcast: Andy Burnham's summer bonanza continues as he announces plans to empower local councils and hopefully improve Britain's High Streets.
The government wants to make it easier for councils to refuse certain types of businesses – but is the plethora of vape shops, betting shops and barbers a cause of Britain's High Street decline, or just a symptom?
If there are no businesses to replace those, will the public prefer empty shops to those they see as less desirable?

Until 2016, Apple offered free engraving on many products purchased through its online store.
For years, Apple offered free laser engraving on select products purchased through its online store, giving customers a simple way to personalize their devices. This original 4GB iPhone features an intricate custom engraving of Jesus Christ, illustrating just how creative some owners became with the service.
The engraving option was popular for adding sentimental value and making devices easier to identify if lost or stolen. As the market for collectible, factory-original Apple products grew, however, heavily personalized devices generally became less desirable to many collectors and resale buyers.

Tesla is taking longer than Waymo to deploy autonomous vehicles. Waymo is winning on deployment. Fact of life in 2026.
But if you look under the hood and study the granular details, you see very clearly that one company ripped a bunch of things off the shelf and slapped it all together with the goal of autonomous rubber on road ASAP, while the other is creating a masterpiece in hardware & software engineering.
Tesla understands that in order to change the entire transportation market, the product needs to be so good and make so much sense that it compels the consumer to completely change their behavior. Uber without a driver is superior and more desirable than Uber with a driver, but it doesn’t rewire the entire transportation market. It just replaces Uber.
For AV’s to truly scale, you need to ship something with no geofence. Something that costs the user less money than Uber or Waymo. Something that is not only putting money back into the user’s pockets, but something that is more convenient and more luxurious. That is the only way to scale. Show the consumer the incentive and they will show you the outcome.
Look at Tesla’s methods. Compare the power draw of their inference chip to what Waymo uses today. Look at where their vehicles can technically operate today, even if not yet autonomously. Look at their factory footprint and next-gen production line. Look at their chip pipeline.
The pieces are all there. This is a massive undertaking, and only one company is foregoing present-day favor to throw everything at it. It’s painful today, but if they execute, it’ll have been worth years of being laughed at and shit on by benchwarmers and pedestrians.
Tesla is behind Waymo in deployments, but if they stick the landing, they’ve painted the AV Picasso. The solution that changes automobile transportation forever.
Keep going.

We experienced an outage at Coinbase last night, which is never acceptable. The root cause was a room overheating in an AWS datacenter when multiple chillers failed. We design our services to be redundant to downtime in any one AWS Availability Zone (AZ), and most of our systems worked this way last night, but not all.
Our centralized exchange did not. Exchanges have unique architectures that optimize for latency and co-location of clients. It is possible to make exchanges resistant to AZ failures, but this can introduce latency delays that are not desirable along with breaking customer co-location. Given this incident, we'll revisit these tradeoffs to ensure we're giving you the best possible venue to trade. At a minimum, the duration of an outage should be able to be reduced considerably when an AZ move is needed.
Thank you to the AWS and Coinbase teams for working through the night to mitigate the issue. We’ll share the detailed technical summary once it's ready.
