Outside of my day job in AI, I also volunteer leading events for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention @afspnational. Today, we brought together 1,500 walkers and raised over $400,000 for suicide prevention research and programs. On X we spend so much time thinking about technology, growth, and what comes next. Days like today remind me to appreciate what matters most. The people around us and the difference we can make in others’ lives.

Outside of the X bubble @Tesla FSD doesn’t matter & not that big a deal. Did a drive to on basic adaptive cruise control in an ICE vehicle today & seriously it wasn’t much different on highway. Hand on the wheel or hands on legs. 🤷‍♂️ In many ways it was less boring. I know this will trigger some. Not saying FSD isn’t great, but it’s not that important to lots of folks. ✌️

Outside the Texas supermarket, the asphalt was melting at one hundred and two degrees. I walked through the automatic sliding doors, and I entered the Arctic Circle. I walked to the milk section. Frost was clinging to the steel shelves. My fingers lost sensation in forty seconds. Beside me, an American man in cargo shorts and flip-flops was humming softly, taking his time choosing vanilla ice cream. His skin must be made of iron. I pulled my blanket tighter around my shoulders, white breath puffing from my mouth. I bought my milk and sprinted to my car to thaw against the windshield. I keep a winter coat in my trunk now. Not for winter. For groceries.

Outside of coding, LLMs are like google maps but for thought processes. Mental models I have well established I don't use the crutch. But for things I haven't thought through for a long time, or for new "routes" of thought it's a great guide. I think this is the right mental model for AI as a teacher; teach the thought process rather than facts. Search reduced the need to know facts, and AI reduces the need to know derivations/thought patterns.

Outsiders studying possible Taiwan crises typically weigh the risks of a Chinese invasion or blockade. If America were to intervene to defend the island, two nuclear-armed superpowers would be at war. But another scenario merits study, too
