Steam is now rolling out age verification in Australia for R18+ games, and the method Valve chose is already getting a lot of people annoyed. The system asks users to add a credit card to prove they’re 18 or older and people don’t have a credit card and normally use debit cards instead. Certain debit cards actually work and others not depending on the bank, which makes the whole system even more confusing. And there’s another issue, people say they can be blocked from even viewing the store page for games they already own, including games like Cyberpunk 2077. I understand that Valve need to follow Australia’s new age-verification rules, but making a credit card the main way to prove you’re an adult when for some people their account is over 18 years old feels unnecessary

Steam leak could be way worse than Nvidia leak, they may have accidentally revealed achievement lists for a bunch of upcoming PC games through a third-party site. The list includes games like Persona 6, Ace Combat 8, Kingdom Hearts 4, Judas, Control Resonant, Deus Ex Remastered and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Even worse, some of the entries seem to be for games that haven’t been announced yet. There are also references that could point to a new Balatro project and a Thief: The Dark Project campaign called The Tarnished Mirror. They may be placeholders, but if the data is legit, Steam could have leaked a lot of unannounced games.

Steam Deck has now booted its first PS5 game through the experimental SharpEmu emulator, with Astro’s Playroom running at 0,6 FPS SharpEmu managed to get the game running directly on Steam Deck through SteamOS, without Remote Play or cloud streaming. SteamOS 3.8.6 Beta is now available. One of the most interesting changes is the addition of preliminary HDMI VRR support for devices with native HDMI output.
