HONDA SEPT. US SALES 121,796 UNITS, UP 15.9% M/M
Speculative traders are turning bullish on the Japanese Yen:
Net long speculative positioning in the Japanese Yen jumped to +10,796 contracts in the week ending September 8th, the highest in 6 months.
This positioning reflects investors such as hedge funds, asset managers, CTAs, and other money managers that take positions based on price trends and macro views rather than hedging needs.
This marks a sharp reversal from net short positioning of -92,227 contracts in the prior week.
By comparison, in the week ending August 2nd, net short positioning peaked at -163,412 contracts.
This comes as investors are increasingly betting on the Bank of Japan hiking rates which could also encourage domestic investors to bring money back home.
Meanwhile, the unwinding of Yen-funded carry trades could provide further support for the currency.
The Japanese Yen is undergoing a major shift in sentiment.

Did you know you can now put the text of almost all of arXiv on one cheap SSD.
Someone just packaged an enormous arXiv snapshot on Hugging Face
📚 3,148,796 papers
📄 PDFs for 99.47%
💽 Full archive: 16.08 TB
Sounds ridiculous for Local AI…
Until you see that …
🔥 paper_text = 70GB
That contains the resolved TeX text for …
🧠 2,856,227 papers
📊 90.7% of all arXiv
And you can download just that dataset by itself.
No 16TB NAS is necessary.
So theoretically you could build a completely local research system using ThumbLLM.exe from a thumb drive!!!
💾 70GB arXiv text corpus
🔎 local search / embeddings
🧠 local LLM
🚫 no API required
Ask your local model to search nearly 3 million scientific papers sitting on your own SSD. 👀
Caveats
⚠️ It’s a snapshot, not live arXiv
⚠️ latest submission is Aug. 27
⚠️ the text is resolved TeX, so it still contains LaTeX syntax/macros and needs some cleaning for ideal RAG
But 2.8M papers in ~70GB is a Localmaxxer dataset.

🛑 Philly ICE Tase, Karen on Cue 🛑
ICE had to tase a fleeing suspect on a Philadelphia street after he ran and went down hard on the pavement, now the pavement looks better than he does.
Philadelphia spent years as a sanctuary city that refused ICE detainers, then City Council passed the “ICE Out” package on April 23, 2026, Mayor Cherelle Parker signed it in May, and it took effect July 6. The laws ban honoring immigration detainers, bar ICE from staging on city property, and even try to ban officers from wearing masks on Philly streets. After the ordinance landed, ICE’s Philly ERO office sent the city 26 detainers; Philadelphia released 15 of those people, according to the Justice Department’s lawsuit against the city.
Pennsylvania isn’t sitting still. Immigration arrests in the state jumped from 2,004 in Biden’s last 14 months to 8,796 from Jan. 20, 2025 through March 11, 2026, and the Philly ERO field office logged about 6,900 arrests in FY2025 alone. Local 287(g) partnerships with ICE in Pennsylvania ballooned to 106 by June 2026. FAIR estimates put about 251,000 illegal aliens in Pennsylvania at a roughly $1.64 billion annual cost to taxpayers.
Karen is there as usual, upset that she’s running out of cheap lawn-care options, yelling at ICE, “You’re on our streets in a mask!” as if she owns the streets too. The Supremacy Clause is laughing at Karen's mask law.

The People's Bank of China added roughly 20 tons of gold to its reserves in July, its largest monthly increase since October 2023 and a 21st consecutive month of accumulation. Goldman Sachs now expects official-sector buying to average about 60 tonnes per month through 2026. Poland remains the year's largest buyer, adding 51 tonnes in Q2 to reach 632 tonnes against a stated 700-tonne target.

BARRICK AND NEWMONT BUILD A 100M OUNCE NEVADA COMPLEX
$B and $NEM agreed to expand the Nevada Gold Mines joint venture, with Barrick vending in its Fourmile project and Newmont contributing Mike and Fiberline. Newmont also consented to Barrick's planned IPO of its North American assets, targeted for year-end. Barrick reported Q2 production of 796,000 ounces, 11% above Q1 and ahead of guidance, on $5.29 billion of revenue.
