Podcaster documenting animal cruelty on Skid Row in Los Angeles encountered homeless migrant children living on the streets, surrounded by crime, drugs, and human feces. Where are all the celebrities who wore “F*ck ICE” and “ICE OUT” pins on the red carpet and posted tearful videos telling everyone how much they cared about migrants? This is happening in their own backyard. I guess their “humanitarian activism” is nothing more than performative activism for the cameras, with a heavy dose of virtue signaling. When the cameras shut off, they go back to their million-dollar mansions and stop thinking about the very migrants they lectured everyone else to care about. If you’re going to turn compassion into a public performance, at least have the courage to show up when the cameras aren’t rolling.

As usual, the Chinese government is responding to public outrage—this time over animal cruelty—with its familiar tools: censorship, intimidation, & dispersal. Peaceful expression, including compassion, should never be treated as a threat to state security.

Not only is cruelty to animals outrageous and horrifying, acts of animal cruelty are a precursor to violence against innocent spouses, children, and vulnerable members of our community.
