'IDIOTIC': CBC tells journalists not to call 9/11 ‘terrorist attacks’ in internal guidance, defending the move by citing a longstanding policy to avoid "politically and emotionally loaded" language without direct attribution.
The internal memo, surfaced ahead of the 25th anniversary of 9/11
"I think this is idiotic. I think they know what they're doing. I think they're trying to be woke, but I don't think that resonates with their military that stands side-by-side with ours."
🇺🇸🇨🇦 CBC won’t call 9/11 terrorism, and Patel says that could cost Canada the FBI relationship.
The memo prefers “hijackings” and “crashes,” using “terrorism” only when quoting others.
Al-Qaeda killed nearly 3,000 people, including 24 Canadians.
The FBI still calls 9/11 the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history, and Ottawa lists al-Qaeda as a terrorist group.
If CBC sands that word off the 25th anniversary, it is not a tone issue.
Call it terrorism, or own the break.
