CHIPMAKERS LIFTED THE NASDAQ 100 0.8% TO ITS FIRST RECORD SINCE JUNE, WITH A SEMICONDUCTOR GAUGE INCLUDING NVIDIA AND MICRON RISING FOR A SIXTH STRAIGHT SESSION, OFFSETTING A SELLOFF IN BANK SHARES.
Chip exports from SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics have surged to record highs in September.
In the first 20 days of September, South Korea's total exports rose by 14.9%, compared to 7.2% in August.
Chip exports accounted for ~60% of the total increase in exports.
After a slowdown in August chip exports, the latest data shows that South Korea’s trade momentum is still strong as of the end of Q3.

Chipmaking Laser Tool Parts Reportedly Face a 40-Month Wait
TrendForce reports that one semiconductor laser equipment maker faces waits of up to 40 months for key Japanese components. Paying extra cannot secure faster delivery because suppliers lack capacity. Another toolmaker says deposition-equipment parts now take up to 10 months, versus four previously.
These shortages could delay chip capacity expansion even when manufacturers have money to spend. Equipment builders need the components before they can deliver the machines.
