A US$10 billion shortcut is changing the map of trade. China’s Pinglu Canal has officially opened, creating a direct waterway from Guangxi’s inland rivers to the Beibu Gulf. The 134 km canal cuts more than 560 km from existing routes, with transport costs on some routes expected to fall by 18% to 30%.
