The Yangtze River Delta railway network in east China, which serves major cities including Shanghai and Hangzhou, handled a record of more than 470 million passenger trips in the first half of 2026, up 3 percent year on year, according to China Railway Shanghai Group on Wednesday.

The Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway has run more than 2.22 million trains over the past 15 years, safely transporting over 2.3 billion passenger trips, official data from China Railway Beijing Group showed. The 1,318-km rail line connecting China's capital Beijing and the economic hub Shanghai marked its 15th anniversary since starting operations on Tuesday.
