🇨🇳 🇹🇼 | “Taiwan has never been a country.” KMT Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun is leading a direct offensive against the ruling DPP's separatist trajectory, pushing for improved cross-strait relations with Beijing. The DPP's US-aligned politics have steered the island toward an increasingly dangerous standoff with the People's Republic of China, which has maintained its claim to Taiwan as sovereign Chinese territory since the 1949 civil war, when KMT Nationalists retreated to the island following their defeat by the Communist Party. Washington intervened in 1950, deploying the 7th Fleet to the Taiwan Strait and freezing what Beijing considers unfinished business. Western governments and media have since worked hard to project a uniform Taiwanese desire for independence, but a 200,000-strong protest in Taipei recently told a different story, with improved cross-strait relations among the central demands. The KMT argues that Taiwanese identity is inseparable from Chinese civilization. The DPP has spent decades building a competing narrative. Washington has spent decades bankrolling it.

Today, I’m incredibly excited to make my first proposal to Uniswap governance on behalf of @Uniswap alongside @devinawalsh and @nkennethk This proposal turns on protocol fees and aligns incentives across the Uniswap ecosystem Uniswap has been my passion and singular focus for the past 8 years. What started as a small side project is now global financial infrastructure powering thousands of applications with ~$1.8 trillion in annual trading UNI launched in 2020, but for the past 5 years Labs has been unable to meaningfully participate in Uniswap governance, and has been greatly restricted in the ways it can build value for the Uniswap community. That ends today! This restriction was in great part due to a hostile regulatory environment that cost thousands of hours and tens of millions in legal fees. Fortunately, the regulatory environment has shifted This proposal comes from a strong desire to see the Uniswap protocol win as the global decentralized exchange for tokenized value At a high level, the proposal: 1. Turns on protocol fees and uses them to burn UNI 2. Sends @unichain sequencer fees to the UNI burn 3. Burns 100M UNI from the treasury representing the protocol fees that could have been burned if fees were turned on at token launch 4. Introduces Protocol Fee Discount Auctions, a new way to improve LP outcomes and internalize MEV to the protocol 5. Introduces "aggregator hooks” which will turns Uniswap v4 into an onchain aggregator that collects protocol fees on external liquidity sources 6. Focus Labs on driving protocol growth and adoption, including a contractual agreement to only pursue initiatives that align with Uniswap governance interests ^ As part of this, Labs will stop collecting fees on its interface, wallet, and API to supercharge distribution and adoption of the Uniswap protocol 7. Moves Foundation employees to Labs with a shared goal of accelerating protocol growth, under a growth fund from the treasury 8. Move governance-owned Unisocks liquidity to v4 on Unichain and burn the LP position I believe Uniswap protocol can be the primary place tokens are traded. This proposal sets the stage for the next decade of its growth @Uniswap will ship relentlessly over the coming years and supercharge the ecosystem of developers, LPs, and traders building on top I'm so grateful to the community that has made this all possible, and excited for what's next 🦄

Extracts from article in Spectator 16th August by Brendan O’Neill: Behold the human wreckage of the cult of diversity. The tragedy of Jason Arday is that he was both built up and destroyed by the ruthless machinery of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). The academy made him into the golden boy of its philistine project of ‘decolonisation’ and gave not one thought to what the consequences might be if his thin story unravelled, as it inevitably would. No one can deny it now: wokeness makes false gods and real tragedies. . . This is the poison chalice of the state religion of diversity. It lays traps for the very people it celebrates. It handpicks members of ‘the oppressed’ for moral anointment and institutional gushing while leaving them open to exposure as others start to query their credentials. That’s the toxic bargain of identity politics: it builds teetering pedestals for ethnic-minority thinkers, meaning their fall from grace is often twice as fatal. And what a pedestal they made for Arday. They worshipped him as ‘the best in the world’. They beatified him as a black wunderkind whose very presence in a place like Cambridge might help to wash away its sins of whiteness. They canonised him as a living monument to ‘decolonisation’. It was precisely this, their giddy, narcissistic desire to manufacture a kind of black saviour, that made them turn a blind eye to the questionable elements of Arday’s CV and life story. They sacrificed their due diligence to the god of decolonisation. And Arday suffered. He was both poster boy and sacrificial lamb of the diversity crusade. Even as he gained from it – reaching the dizzying heights of a Cambridge professorship – he was being damned by it. The foundation of myth and sand his starry career was built on was untenable. Its collapse was a given. It is a testament to the ideological blindness of the inhabitants of our ivory towers that none of them foresaw it. . . . The Faustian ruthlessness of it all is mindblowing. . . . The media is the only institution in this entire tragic scandal that did its job properly. Journalists found a story and they told it. It was the academy and Arday’s colleagues who failed to do their jobs. Who failed to prize merit over identity, and failed to foresee the public embarrassment that would befall their falsely promoted friend. They ignored the truth – the media found it. I and others have been arguing for years that the politics of identity is a disaster for all, black and white alike. White kids are overlooked, black kids are patronised. Whites are branded ‘privileged’, blacks ‘oppressed’. Whites are seen as the beneficiaries of historic crimes who must atone for past sins, blacks as history’s perma-victims who require the gracious helping hand of the state. We are demonised or infantilised according to the accident of our race. Enough. Let our monument to Jason Arday be the restoration of the true ideal of equality. We couldn’t save Jason but we can save merit from the monstrous jaws of identity.
