Earth is tiny compared to what exists beyond it.
Human civilization currently uses only a microscopic fraction of the Sun’s energy. Even if humanity increased its energy usage a million times over, it would still be almost nothing compared to the scale and power of the Sun.
The Sun contains roughly 99.8% of the mass in the entire solar system. Everything else, including Earth, is incredibly small in comparison.
Musk believes this is why civilization cannot remain Earth-bound forever. The long-term future of humanity depends on expanding into space where energy, resources and growth potential exist at an almost unimaginable scale.
For a truly advanced civilization, space is not a side project. It’s the next frontier.
“Earth is the cradle of humanity, you cannot stay in the cradle forever. The window of opportunity is open right now to make life multi-planetary "
- Elon Musk
