“Recent Graduate in Fujian Exposes Company’s Use of AI Face-Swapping to Deceive Consumers, Then Gets Fired (2026.07.19–31)”
A recent university graduate had been working in Fujian for only one month when her company instructed her to use AI face-swapping technology to create deceptive advertisements for beauty products. She was told to make users appear less attractive before using the products, then enhance their appearance afterward, in order to persuade others to make purchases.
The young woman believed that this practice amounted to deceiving consumers, but she was also afraid of losing a job that had been difficult to find. She found herself struggling between her moral concerns and the pressure to make a living.
On July 19, she posted a video describing her situation and inner conflict, attracting widespread attention online. On July 31, she posted another video saying that the company had fired her on the grounds that she was “unqualified.”
Since 2016, southeast China's Fujian Province has planted around 141,384 hectares of coastal shelterbelts, boosting their ecological functions and reinforcing the resilience and stability of the coastal ecosystem.
