5 BIOTECH STOCKS I’M WATCHING Biotech is all about clinical catalysts, cash runway, regulatory progress and execution. These 5 have very different stories, but all have developments worth tracking: $ABCL at $12.63 Platform + pipeline. ABCL635 delivered positive Phase 2 data, while new T-cell engager collaborations with Jazz and Vertex added significant upfront cash and milestone optionality. The next question is whether AbCellera can turn platform validation into multiple valuable clinical assets. $RXRX at $3.83 AI-driven drug discovery. The thesis remains centered on using large-scale biology + AI to accelerate drug development. Multiple clinical programs and pharma partnerships provide catalysts, but cash burn and the ability to translate the platform into successful medicines remain key risks. $PRME at $3.12 Prime Editing + clinical validation. PM577a is moving into a global Phase 1/2 program for Wilson disease, while PM359 and PM647 provide additional clinical catalysts. The big question is whether Prime Editing can demonstrate meaningful human efficacy at scale. $ALT at $3.25 Pemvidutide is now moving into Phase 3 for MASH following positive Phase 2b data. ALT also reported positive Phase 2 AUD data and completed enrollment in its ALD study. The company ended Q2 with $519M in cash, giving it substantial runway for development. $HELP at $12.37 Formerly Cybin, HELP is developing novel serotonergic agonists for mental-health conditions. HLP003 is in Phase 3 for adjunctive MDD and has FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation, while HLP004 is in Phase 2 for generalized anxiety disorder. Phase 3 execution and upcoming clinical data are the major catalysts. I’m watching across all 5 Clinical data → Regulatory progress → Cash runway → Dilution → Commercial potential These are high-risk biotech names, and a promising platform doesn’t automatically translate into an approved or commercially successful drug. $ABCL $RXRX $PRME $ALT $HELP Biotech could become a very interesting part of the portfolio over the next few years — but position sizing and patience matter. 5 Early-Stage Names With the Cash to Back Up the Story $ONDS $ABCL $SMR $JOBY $QS $ONDS — The defense and autonomous systems story here has been one of the fastest-scaling in the space, and the balance sheet backs it up. Ondas ended Q2 with roughly $1.4 billion in cash, cash equivalents, restricted cash, and short-term investments, alongside a $757 million backlog that grew 66% sequentially. Revenue is scaling fast too — Q2 came in at $83.8 million, up more than 13x year-over-year, with full-year guidance raised to $525–$550 million. The bear case worth knowing: a chunk of that cash pile has already been earmarked for recent acquisitions (DZYNE, CyberHawk), so the fortress balance sheet is partly a function of equity raises funding a roll-up strategy — worth watching how disciplined that stays. $ABCL — A biotech name with a genuinely clean balance sheet: over $565 million in cash and marketable securities, plus access to roughly $110 million in committed government funding, giving management a stated runway of at least three years. Two new partnerships with Jazz Pharmaceuticals and Vertex added over $110 million in non-dilutive upfront cash this year alone — a good sign that the platform is monetizing without constant capital raises. The lead program, ABCL635, already delivered its Phase 2 catalyst on August 10 — a single dose cut moderate-to-severe hot flash frequency by 83% versus 33% for placebo at week 4, hitting statistical significance with a clean tolerability profile. Next catalyst to watch is ABCL575 Phase 1 data, expected Q4 2026. $JOBY — This is the standout on pure balance sheet strength: roughly $2.3 billion in cash and short-term investments as of the end of Q2. That's real ammunition heading into what's shaping up to be the most important stretch yet — first eVTOL passenger flights targeted for later this year, alongside continued FAA certification progress. The offset: cash burn is heavy, with the company using about $202 million in the quarter, so the runway is strong but not infinite. $SMR — Liquidity here has ballooned to about $1.9 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and investments, up roughly $900 million in a single quarter. Revenue is essentially nonexistent right now (a byproduct of project timing, not demand), so this is a pure binary-catalyst setup — the whole thesis hinges on ENTRA1 closing a definitive agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority. If that lands, the cash position gives NuScale the ability to execute immediately without needing to raise into a potential re-rate. $QS — Total liquidity of $859 million, split between cash/equivalents and marketable securities, funds continued scaling of the Eagle Line production process and expansion into new verticals including AI data center batteries (QSDC) and defense/aerospace (QSAS). Management has guided full-year Adjusted EBITDA loss of $250–$275 million, so the cash pile is a multi-year runway rather than a war chest for aggressive expansion — still, it removes near-term financing risk while the company works toward commercialisation. each of these names can fund its own roadmap for years without going back to the well, which takes one major risk off the table for early-stage exposure. That doesn't remove execution risk — cash doesn't guarantee contracts, certifications, or clinical data — but it does buy time for the thesis to play out without shareholders getting diluted along the way. I feel so completely grateful to have been asked to open the Paris @Olympics 2024 this year. I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organizing committee to sing such a special French song—a song to honor the French people and their tremendous history of art, music, and theatre. This song was sung by Zizi Jeanmaire, born in Paris a French ballerina, she famously sang “Mon Truc en Plumes” in 1961. The title means “My Thing with Feathers.” And this is not the first time we’ve crossed paths. Zizi starred in Cole Porter’s musical “Anything Goes” which was my first jazz release. Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a very special connection with French people and singing French music—I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and on such a momentous occasion remind everyone of one of the most magical cities on earth—Paris. We rented pom poms from Le Lido archive—a real French cabaret theater. We collaborated with Dior to create custom costumes, using naturally molted feathers. I studied French choreography that put a modern twist on a French classic. I rehearsed tirelessly to study a joyful French dance, brushing up on some old skills—I bet you didn’t know I used to dance at a 60’s French party on the lower east side when I was first starting out! I hope you love this performance as much as I do. And to everyone in France, thank you so much for welcoming me to your country to sing in honor of you—it’s a gift I’ll never forget! Congratulations to all the athletes who are competing in this year’s Olympic Games! It is my supreme honor to sing for you and cheer you on!! Watching the Olympic Games always makes me cry!
