On August 1, 1924, Koshien Stadium opened in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture. Modeled after the Polo Grounds, the home stadium of the New York Giants at the time, it was a mammoth stadium with 50,000 seats and a total capacity of 80,000. It hosted many historic games including the 1934 U.S.-Japan All-Star Series and the 2014 exhibition match between a combined Hanshin-Yomiuri team and the MLB All-Stars. Koshien continues to be cherished today as sacred ground in the world of baseball.
