Panasonic Energy launches new global lithium-ion battery R&D hub in Japan
Panasonic Energy has launched a new global lithium-ion battery R&D hub in Japan to accelerate development and production for automotive and data center applications.
The new facility is aimed at advancing battery technologies and supporting growing demand across electric vehicles and data center infrastructure.
Enovix has spent years promising batteries with much higher energy density than conventional lithium-ion cells.
But manufacturing problems, high costs and faster-moving rivals are raising doubts that its technology can still win big customers.

$GOOGL, MN8 & $EOSE TO BUILD $350M WEST VIRGINIA ENERGY PROJECT
Google, MN8 Energy and Eos are developing a major solar + storage project in West Virginia to support Google’s regional data centers.
The Mammoth Solar project will include:
• 86 MW of utility-scale solar
• 70 MW / 280 MWh of lithium-ion storage
• 10 MW / 100 MWh of Eos Z3 zinc-based long-duration storage
Google will purchase the project’s energy, capacity and clean-energy attributes, including for its planned West Virginia data center.
The project will be built on a reclaimed coal mine and represents up to $350M in investment.
It will also be West Virginia’s first commercial-scale long-duration energy storage deployment and Google’s first project using Eos’ Z3 technology.
Solar operations are expected in 2028, lithium-ion storage in 2029 and Eos long-duration storage in 2030.
We went back and forth with our mechanical engineers until we found a way.
3,000 mAh → 3,600 mAh using an Advanced Silicon-Anode Lithium-Ion Battery.
Same footprint. Same compact phone.
600 mAh more battery without making Minimal Phone 2 any bigger.
Every backer gets the upgrade.
