Meloni is introducing a stricter migration policy with accelerated deportations of illegal migrants while simultaneously clashing with Germany over migration inside the EU. Meloni publicly shared footage of one of the latest deportation operations, in which 17 Egyptians were repatriated. At the same time, Italy refuses to accept asylum seekers Germany wants to send back under the EU’s Dublin rules. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi confirmed that Rome would not accept the first 3 asylum seekers Germany planned to transfer to Italy on August 19, despite them having initially entered the EU through Italy. Italy also argues that foreign NGOs continue bringing thousands of migrants to its shores. Piantedosi says German NGOs have taken 2000+ migrants to Italy this year alone.
