Before a launch of Starship there are 200-250 tanker truck deliveries of nitrogen, oxygen and methane. To give you a visual, here’s a video I took showing just before Starship Flight 6!

George Washington Carver pioneered agriculture with concepts of crop rotations. He taught farmers to plant nitrogen-fixing crops such as peanuts and soybeans. However, he was making history years before when he became the first Black student at Iowa State University, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees. After, he became the first Black faculty member. His contributions to agriculture planted him on the #Forbes250# list honoring historic innovators: Photo: Heritage Images via Getty Images

Air pollution on race day is linked to slower marathon times. A study of 2.7 million finishes at the World Marathon Majors found higher nitrogen dioxide associated with slower times, about 1.4–1.6 minutes per extra µg/m³. Recreational runners were hit about six times harder than elites. PM2.5 wasn’t significant after weather was accounted for.

JPMorgan is forecasting global food inflation to go from 2.8% now to 5% by early 2027. The driver is fertilizer. 1/3 of the world’s nitrogen fertilizer moves through the Strait of Hormuz, and that strait has been shut since February. Nitrogen goes into about half of all crops grown globally. And unlike oil, there’s no strategic reserve for fertilizer. Nothing to release. NOAA also has a historic El Niño at 69% probability for October to December. Those events have historically cut tropical crop output by 3.5%. US grocery prices are already up 33% since 2019. Not empty shelves. Just expensive food, and it hits the harvest after next rather than this one.

🇳🇱🇪🇺 Dutch farmers rolled up with HUNDREDS of tractors to protest the government trying to shut down 5 poultry farms. Their excuse? “Too much nitrogen.” These farms had valid permits and followed the rules... Now the province wants to strip them because of EU-driven nature regulations that treat farmers like environmental criminals. Dutch agriculture has been suffocating under this kind of regulatory overreach for years. Brussels writes the rules, local politicians enforce them, and working farmers get screwed... Writer: Sol
