The 1995 classic re-enters the Billboard Hot 100 this week at No. 27, marking its first appearance on the chart since its original run in 1996.
“Wonderwall” earned 43.2 million official on-demand global streams during the July 10-16 tracking week, according to Luminate — up 194% from the 14.7 million streams it drew during the World Cup’s opening round five weeks earlier.
After holding between roughly 14 million and 16 million weekly streams throughout May and early June, the song began climbing during the tournament’s group stage. Its total then surged from 19.4 million streams in the June 26-July 2 tracking week to 26.7 million from July 3-9, as England defeated Mexico in the Round of 16. Streams soared again the following week as England advanced to the semifinals.
