An OpenAI employee built a RuneScape clone with AI… and it lasted about three days. Rohan Varma, a developer working on OpenAI’s Codex, created Elderwood, a browser-based multiplayer game using AI coding tools. The problem was that looked extremely close to Old School RuneScape, Varma openly described it as an OSRS clone. After the RuneScape community drew attention to it, Jagex sent a cease-and-desist request. Elderwood was taken offline on September 9, with Varma confirming the project was being discontinued.
