I'm a cardiologist. At 108 years old, she just renewed her driver's license — good until 2033.
Sit with that. She was born before penicillin. She has outlived world wars, pandemics, and every "breakthrough" that promised to be the secret. And when they asked her how, she didn't name a supplement, a peptide, or a lab test.
She named five things:
Keep moving.
Eat real food.
Laugh every single day.
Don't waste energy holding grudges.
Never lose your sense of purpose.
Here's what humbles me as a physician: buried in that simple list is nearly everything the hard science of longevity has confirmed.
Keep moving — physical fitness is the single strongest predictor of how long you'll live. Stronger than almost any number on your bloodwork.
Eat real food — not a diet, not a cleanse. Just food your great-grandmother would recognize. It's the whole game.
Laugh every day — laughter lowers cortisol and blood pressure and improves the flexibility of your blood vessels. That's not a metaphor. It's measurable.
Don't hold grudges — chronic resentment keeps your stress system switched on, and that quiet, constant cortisol drip taxes the heart every single day. Letting go isn't soft. It's cardioprotective.
Never lose your purpose — this may be the most powerful of all. In the longevity research, having a reason to get up in the morning is associated with lower mortality. People with strong purpose live measurably longer. The heart keeps beating for something.
We spend fortunes chasing complexity — the newest scan, the exotic molecule, the perfect protocol. And a 108-year-old woman with a valid driver's license just reminded us that the truest medicine was never complicated. It was consistent.
I'll spend my career grateful for the drugs and technology that save lives. But I'll never stop telling patients what she already knows:
The fundamentals aren't the boring part of longevity.
They're the whole thing.
Move. Eat real. Laugh. Forgive. Keep your purpose burning.
Clear mind. Clean heart. Keep driving.
Paradis Macro Report [June 17]:
FOMC Summary & AI Trade Impact (2 min read):
1. Rates held at 3.50%-3.75%, as expected.
2. But the next move could be to raise rates due to rising inflation driven by energy prices (Iran war).
3. Hawkish surprise with 9/18 participants penciling in one hike later this year (was 0 participants in March) w/ median dot at 3.8% (2026) and 3.6% (2027).
4. Five new "task forces" launched to overhaul Fed: comms, balance sheet, data, productivity/labour and inflation.
5. Forward guidance scrapped = Less public information on Fed outlook = More volatile market.
-> AI Trade Impact:
In theory:
Less guidance + higher implied volatility = structural headwind to multiples.
But, we all know that the AI trade defies logic.
So for now, the AI capex narrative is trading on its own unique fundamentals...less sensitive to rates/broader macro.
