Rockstar says GTA 6 is so massive that even the development team may not know every part of Leonida. Rob Nelson, Rockstar’s head of development and co-studio head, told IGN: “The game is so big, I don’t know that there’s anybody on the team that knows all of it.” Rockstar says the focus has been on expanding the ideas that made previous GTA games successful and give players more freedom.

Rockstar has explained how character switching between Jason and Lucia will work in GTA 6. Rob Nelson, Rockstar North’s co-studio head, says switching won’t always be available, some missions lock you to one character, some force a switch, and others let you freely alternate between Jason and Lucia. This is for story progression and to make situations feel natural. Nelson cited an early high-rise mission where free switching was originally allowed. The team later locked players to Jason because his ex-special-forces background made him a more natural leader for the situation. Other missions require switching as part of gameplay, in the trailer’s bank robbery, you first control Jason while Lucia drives. Later you switch to Lucia and drive while Jason and Raul keep shooting at police. Some missions also allow free switching between Jason and Lucia, including the attack sequence at the end of the trailer.

Rockstar says you won’t have to care about Jason and Lucia’s romance in GTA 6 if you don’t want to. Rob Nelson explained that their relationship is important to the story, but players won’t be forced to engage with the romantic side of it. “Don’t bother with it if you aren’t. Up to you.” "The narrative is structured in such a way that the circumstances they find themselves in require them to stay together for most of the story and work together. At the very least they will get through most things as partners in crime,"

Rockstar Games says Miami’s music scene played a major role in shaping GTA VI 🎮🌴 The team specifically named Kodak Black, Sexyy Red and Miami bass while discussing the game’s music culture, clubs and in-game artists. “We love Miami music, particularly Miami bass, going through to more recent Miami artists like Kodak Black and Sexyy Red.” (via DAZED)
