COMING SOON: SUPERSONIC FLIGHTS ARE BACK. The FAA has proposed a new rule that would allow civil supersonic flights over the continental United States. By utilizing "boomless cruise" technology, next-generation aircraft could travel at speeds above Mach 1 without disruptive sonic booms reaching the ground. “Advances in aerospace engineering, materials science, noise reduction, and new operational concepts will eliminate the old sonic boom,” said FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford.
