There are some people saying that Tesla can’t solve the speed profile issues people have with V14. I disagree. I hate to break it to you, but LiDAR, radar, and even HD maps won’t help with speed control. It’s all about the model that drives the car. Speed control is mostly preference; however, there is a range of acceptable speeds when traveling according to speed limits. They can fine-tune the model based on traffic, speed signs, and user preference, which is exactly what Ashok has said they’re doing. People ask why we can’t just use max speed to train the model. It’s because the data simply gets muddied. This is what happened with V13. The speed profiles in V14 are a way to train the model in buckets that make it easier to collect the data needed to improve speed control. As always, customer feedback is important, but we should also understand why they’re going about solving an issue a certain way

The biggest part of FSD V14 vs all prior versions is the part everyone is afraid to talk about. It’s the most significant piece of signal. It is the reality that with V14, you press the button and subconsciously forget that you’re supposed to pay attention. Regardless of where you are, whether it’s raining etc. You aren’t actively choosing this, it just bakes into your subconscious after thousands of miles. I think back to V13, and though it was incredible, it was still routinely embarrassing and annoying. V14 is like your air conditioning in your house. You just set it and assume it’s going to do exactly what it’s supposed to do. This is very profound.

FSD is only going to continue being a bigger tailwind for Tesla's legacy business. Should have zero issues funding this next buildout as people continue to become aware of what FSD is. I think it really just took V14 for FSD to become objectively impressive to anyone who experiences it. V12.5 was a breakthrough, V13 was incredible, but nothing before 14.2 was truly just "press the button and forget it." Us nerds loved it, but the average person wasn't going to deal with it. That changed earlier this year. And with V14.3 now being polished, it's just become more and more autonomous. From here this only continues to improve. The masses really only started getting the "holy shit" experience a few months ago. The data speaks for itself. It's so hard to see past the trenches when you're in them, but the setup really is better than ever for this company. Just gotta let them carry out the biggest industrial scale-up since WW2 and accept that it's a haul.
