Hebei Xianghe Villagers Protest Authorities' Construction of Razor-Wire Barrier Wall; Entering Beijing Now Harder Than Leaving the Country (July 20, 2026)
On July 20, in Baoshang Village, Anping Town, Xianghe County, Langfang, Hebei Province, authorities replaced what had been temporary barrier panels with a permanent wall topped with razor wire, intending to permanently separate the village from the neighboring Xiaotun Village in Huoxian Town, Tongzhou District, Beijing. The move sparked discontent among villagers, who gathered at the road junction to protest.
In recent times, many stretches of the barrier fencing along the Hebei-Beijing border have likewise been replaced with razor-wire walls, to the point that residents living along the Hebei-Beijing boundary now find it harder to enter Beijing than some border villagers find it to leave the country.
