aws made the industry soft. we're used to them handling all the hard problems and everyone can be a pure product company with 85% margins ai infra is not mature enough for this but everyone is pretending like they can offload the actual work to someone else it's why there's 27 model router products. even most inference companies do the bare minimum on compute someone else set up and it all feels successful because there's so much money around it's hard to justify doing the hard thing when the easy thing is profitable but the gap between what openai, anthropic, deepseek, moonshot and everyone else is huge and it's easy to forget that someone actually has to do the work to close it

AWS is static infrastructure. You deploy a product. It stays what it is. You don't want the Uber app randomly changing on you. Something like @daytonaio is dynamic infra. The agent is doing things, figuring things out, breaking things, changing state constantly. The machine itself can grow CPU and RAM on the fly and shrink back down. There are two axes of dynamic: the workload and the machine running it. Completely different primitive. It took hearing @friedberg talk about "static vs dynamic" on @theallinpod for me to realize I'd never framed it that way.

AWS, COGNITION SIGN MULTI-YEAR DEVIN DEAL AWS and Cognition are teaming up to push Devin deeper into enterprise software modernization, targeting one of the biggest bottlenecks in large companies: old code, security backlogs and migration work. Devin will be used to analyze legacy systems, write replacement code, test migrations and run multiple engineering tasks in parallel inside AWS environments. The interesting part is the productivity claim. Mercedes-Benz used Devin to analyze more than 200,000 lines of COBOL, cutting an estimated 8-month modernization project to 8 days. Another automaker used Devin to move a 25,000-line COBOL workflow to AWS Lambda, with an estimated 73% cost reduction. Devin can also run in single-tenant AWS environments with dedicated VPCs, regional controls and audit logs, which makes the product easier to deploy inside large enterprises with strict security requirements. This looks like AWS moving beyond simply hosting AI models and starting to integrate autonomous coding agents directly into enterprise migration and infrastructure workflows.
