Buttigieg: A lot of people believed him when he said he was going to lower costs on day one. Here we are on day 608. We’re all paying more for gas, more for groceries, more for insurance, more for housing, more for health care. And that’s not a coincidence; it’s a direct result of the tariffs and the trade wars. Trade wars! As if our big problem right now was Canada. A lot of people believed him when he said he was going to cut costs. A lot of people believed him when he said he wasn’t going to start a new foreign war. Then he decided to commit American blood and treasure to a conflict in Iran with no end in sight.

Buttigieg: “Drain the swamp.” I am rarely in Washington these days, but as chance would have it, I was there yesterday. Went out for a run on the National Mall and couldn’t help but think that the only thing he’s actually managed to drain is that Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial. So forgive us if we don’t believe him when he says he’s going to give everybody $5,000, but only after the election and only if they win. You know, if Republicans really want to give everybody a few thousand dollars, they would have done it this week instead of going home for two months in the middle of multiple national crises.
