Capcom says Dragon’s Dogma 2 is running better on Nintendo Switch 2 than the team expected. Producer Naoto Oyama said the game is “exceeding our expectations” and that it often runs at more than 30 FPS. He explained that the performance improvements made for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game also helped the Switch 2 version, leading to better results than the team originally predicted. Oyama also said the RE Engine has been “a really great fit” for Nintendo Switch 2. Because Capcom develops the engine in-house, every improvement made for one game can be used in future projects, creating what he called “a really positive cycle” for the studio.

Capcom says it’s “quite confident” that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will offer a solid challenge in the full game after many players felt the demo was “too easy.” Producers Akihito Kadowaki and director Satoru Nihei explained that the demo takes place early in the game and was “custom built” to give Musashi skills players would normally unlock later, which combined to make it “easier than it should be.” They added that if every enemy was difficult, “it would lead to stress” for some players, but promised tougher enemies and said there will “definitely” be something for players looking for a bigger challenge.

Capcom president and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto says one of the biggest changes that helped the company was moving away from relying on star developers and focusing on team-based development. “In the game industry, when a title becomes a series, it often ends up depending heavily on a particular developer, becoming what you’d call an individual-driven title. If that person doesn’t make one, there’s no next installment. The direction of the series becomes tied to the ideas of a single creator.” Tsujimoto explained that Capcom eventually realized the limits of that approach and decided to change course. “We discussed the issue with the central figures behind each franchise and ultimately agreed that we should abandon that approach.” “We didn’t mind even if sales temporarily declined as a result, and by switching to a team-based approach to game development, Capcom changed dramatically.” According to Tsujimoto, this shift helped franchises like Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, and Street Fighter continue to thrive for decades Via Automaton

Capcom has teased the possibility of a future Resident Evil game set in Japan for the first time in the franchise’s history. In a recent interview with Japanese outlet Futaman, Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa revealed that the idea has been discussed within the development team for years. “Since the development team is primarily based in Japan, I think every member has given it some thought. While Japan hasn’t appeared as a game setting so far, it might make an appearance at some point in the future.” Resident Evil has never had a mainline game set in its home country.
