Compassion is not the solution to L.A.’s homeless problem according to Dreamland author & L.A. Times/NY Times reporter Sam Quinones. He’s right. I see the encampments every day in my neighborhood. Full interview:

Mental illness invites compassion until your mental illness interferes with the ability of children to grow up and not be murdered. Your depression doesn’t excuse murder. It doesn’t explain it away, justify it, or in anyway make it less horrific.

An open border is not compassion. It is a failure of national security. We introduced the Third World Immigration Moratorium Act to stop entry into the United States for aliens from dozens of third-world countries. These nations have repeatedly refused to cooperate with U.S. deportation orders, failed to provide basic vetting information on their own citizens, and left American communities to deal with the consequences. When you import the third world, you risk becoming the third world. Our country cannot afford this risk. We cannot continue allowing criminals and terrorists from places like Somalia and Sudan to come here. America’s safety comes before anyone’s feelings about it.
