Dealership franchise laws are the modern version of the horse industry fighting the automobile.
Back then, entire networks of stables, blacksmiths and carriage makers tried to protect their “volumes of iron and steel” against a technology that was clearly superior. Customers were denied equal access. Progress was delayed by rules written to shield the middlemen.
Today the pattern is identical. Legacy manufacturers are bleeding money while the laws still protect the dealership network that stands between customers and better technology — Tesla and every company trying to follow the same direct model.
The horses lost. History does not care about your franchise laws.
