Miwa Komatsu's Works Acquired and Exhibited at Simose Art Museum: "SIMOSE New Collection Exhibition Part Ⅱ― Sam Falls, Miwa Komatsu" ‼️
The skull of Joseph Merrick aka The Elephant Man... Merrick was born in Leicester, England, in 1862. His early childhood appeared normal, but by the age of five, unusual growths began to appear on his skin and bones. As he grew older, large bony masses developed on his skull, jaw, and limbs, causing his head to enlarge dramatically. His skull circumference eventually measured over 36 inches (about 91 centimeters). His right arm and hand became severely deformed and mostly useless, while his left arm remained normal. Massive skin overgrowths and thickened folds hung from parts of his face and body, adding to his unusual appearance. These deformities made him a subject of medical fascination and, sadly, exploitation. Merrick spent years exhibited as a sideshow curiosity across Britain and Europe. Modern researchers believe his condition was most likely Proteus syndrome—a rare genetic disorder that causes overgrowth of bones, skin, and other tissues though neurofibromatosis type I may also have contributed. Merrick eventually found refuge at the Royal London Hospital under the care of Dr. Frederick Treves. He spent his final years there, treated with dignity and compassion, until he 1890 when he passed away at the age of 27. #archaeohistories#

In the past, China's gold spot exchanges appeared to have low transaction fees, but their profits mainly relied on two sources: spreads (the difference between the buying and selling prices) and overnight fees (also known as deferred fees). Retail investors tended to use leverage and preferred to hold positions overnight. Even if the overnight fee was only 0.2% per day, it would consume most of the margin over a year, and this part of the funds ultimately flowed into the platform. For example, Shanghai Gold Exchange and large bank lending exhibited a typical "rent collection" model, with retail investors holding long positions for a long time, and deferred fees continuously flowing to large investors who held large amounts of spot gold for a long time.
