250 years ago, 56 brave men signed their “lives,” their “fortunes,” and their “sacred honor” to the Declaration of Independence.   That solemn pledge was not simply mere words. To bring about a free, independent nation, our forefathers were willing to face execution as traitors to the British empire, have their property confiscated, and their names and reputations besmirched on the world stage.   These men were willing to give the last great measure of devotion to ensure that a nation of laws—not men—could flourish. They did, and they were successful beyond what anyone thought possible.   Today, we celebrate and reflect on the outstanding vision our founding fathers had for our great nation, and the generations of patriots who have carried it on with great spirit for two and a half centuries.   Happy #America250#, Tennessee!

I am incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Jim Tracy. Jim lived a life of dedicated service to our state. He was a steadfast public servant whose leadership and commitment to Tennessee left a lasting impact on the communities and people he served. Chrissy and I extend our deepest condolences to Senator Tracy’s family during this time of great loss.

250 years ago today, the Continental Congress approved a resolution declaring America’s independence from Great Britain.   The resolution read: “That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.” From that day on, a nation like no other took shape. One that recognized and encouraged the God-given freedoms of every human being—the freedom to worship, the freedom to express and govern themselves. This bold declaration created a thriving nation, and an international emblem of liberty!

It was an honor to speak at the @AmericanLegion Department of Tennessee Convention and I’m humbled to receive the “Soaring Eagle Award.” We discussed the importance of the ‘Be the One’ campaign to combat veteran suicide, the Major Richard Star Act, and the critical national security challenges facing our nation. I’ll always fight for Tennessee’s veterans.

Thank you to my colleagues in the House for passing my legislation, the Financial Exploitation Prevention Act. Senior citizens lose billions of dollars to financial frauds and scams each year. House passage is an important step toward enacting a law that will safeguard Americans from financial exploitation.

Thanks to two bills Congress passed under @POTUS, Tennessee veterans are getting more personalized care that better fits their needs. Tennessee received $1.2 billion from the @DeptVetAffairs @SecVetAffairs that is going to work for Tennessee veterans and our communities.
