🇺🇸🇨🇳 Did China quietly buy off a room full of U.S. journalists?
Natalie Winters, the White House correspondent for Steve Bannon’s War Room, says prominent U.S. journalists joined trips organized by CUSEF, a group founded by former Hong Kong leader Tung Chee-hwa.
CUSEF has been linked in bipartisan congressional reports to Beijing’s United Front, an influence network built to cultivate foreign elites.
Winters says the trips were designed to produce “favorable coverage” and “positive messages” about China, with journalists from outlets including the NYT, CNN, NPR, and AP appearing on her list.
She then points to later commentary she argues was conspicuously soft on Beijing.
China picked up the tab, readers picked up the coverage, and nobody connected the two.
