Moments ago a US official told CBS that the Trump administration is having "positive and constructive discussions through the mediators." Iran has proposed a 7 day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz but this US official said the following: "The United States is in a very strong position with control of the Strait of Hormuz, so we are not in a rush. Over the last 48 hours, nearly 40 million barrels of oil have transited the Strait. " h/t @saraecook

President Trump said he would be willing to meet with Iran but ultimately no such presidential encounter took place this week. President Pezeshkian told me that the latest Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait awaits a greenlight from Trump. He dismissed my questions about having to take shelter amid US bombardment and the irony of now being granted American security protection & a US visa during his visit to NYC this past week. It has been five years since the US & NATO withdrew from Afghanistan as it fell once again to Taliban control. It is six years since the Trump deal with the Taliban to withdraw. Today is a painful day for the families of the 13 Americans and 170 Afghans killed at Abbey Gate during that chaotic exit. Today the Pentagon spox said Hegseth's team is still doing their own review of what happened. Meanwhile the congressional War Commission review is held until 2027.

With Xi Jinping's US visit just weeks away, the State Dept has designated US citizen Min Zin as wrongfully detained by China (Reuters first reported.) He is the second US academic to be given this legal designation in recent months. Dr Youlin Chen has also been designated. Statement from Chen's wife Dr. Yufang Rong via Global Reach: "Both Youlin and Min Zin are academics who are widely respected in their fields. China says it wants academic collaboration, but then it arrests academics on false charges.”

NEWS via @CBSNews: One cabinet secretary was on the secret plane with Trump -- Pete Hegseth -- when he employed a ruse to evade an Iran threat after the NATO summit.  Two cabinet secretary were on the decoy (the plane publicly identified as AF1): Marco Rubio and Scott Bessent, sources told me. The secretaries, who separated from the president and maintained the line of succession, were aware Trump was on another, secret plane.  Several White House aides were also on the aircraft without the president, including Stephen Miller, Will Scharf, Steven Cheung, Mike Needham, Ross Worthington and Monica Crowley. Staff on the undisclosed plane with Trump after he relocated with the help of a catering truck included Natalie Harp, Dan Scavino and Walt Nauta.

24 hours before the Trump executive order was issued, the NIH director said on CBS that he did not know what was in the order. He also twice said that he trusted the science and vaccinated his own children. He recommended that parents should vaxx their children before sending them back to school. Then 24 hours later.....

TRUMP says "we do not know" what causes autism but he's aiming to reduce and space out vaccine jabs anyway: “Decades ago, children received only a small fraction of the vaccines required today. In those times, people were much healthier and of course, the high rates of autism now observed did not exist. So there’s a reason for such epidemic rates of autism. And we’re going to bring it back to much closer to where it was. While we do not know exactly what the cause is with respect to autism, it is essential to our research efforts that we have the very best vaccine recommendations in the entire world,” he continued. “So we’re reducing them, we’re changing it to visits over the period of a year, a year and a half, so they get 20% of what they would have gotten in one big shot.”

My initial thoughts on this? 1) The President is getting really bad advice in regards to the impacts this is going to have on vaccine confidence and vaccine preventable diseases 2) This administration clearly wants to - and will be - judged based on the health and economic consequences caused by vaccine preventable diseases. At this point we are left to track, quantify, and share that information with the public 3) Clearly this is going to be an issue citizens vote on in the midterms, and in 2028. Republicans now (seemingly gladly) clearly the issue of declining vaccine uptake.

The new EO on vaccines will make life harder & more expensive for parents who want to vaccinate their kids. What used to be one office visit + one low-cost combo MMR shot (~$10–$75 range… or free under VFC) will now be THREE separate shots at three separate visits. MORE trips, MORE time off work, MORE admin fees, MORE hassle, MORE pain for America’s children - and higher odds kids miss doses. “Big Pharma” & healthcare providers? They could actually sell/administer THREE TIMES the product and bills for three visits under this EO! 🤯🤔

I’m a doctor. This executive order is wrong. The President does not have the expertise to make these changes. Vaccines are overwhelmingly safe. Vaccines are effective. Vaccines DO NOT cause autism. Breaking up vaccines will mean children have to get more shots to get the same protection, not fewer shots. It will increase hesitancy and make children less safe. Parents should listen to their child’s pediatrician about vaccines rather than listening to an inaccurate executive order. This is so wrong.
