Why was this chosen as Letter of the Day, and why print it at all? @IrishTimes comes across as elitist. Boxing clubs across Ireland are packed every week with young boys and girls, men and women learning discipline, fitness, confidence and respect through sport. Much of the growth in women's boxing can be traced back to 2012, when @KatieTaylor won Olympic gold at the first Games to include women's boxing. She inspired an entire generation and helped make boxing more accessible and aspirational for young athletes everywhere. Since then, Katie has become a multiple-time world champion, a global sporting icon, a business owner and one of Ireland's greatest ever athletes. She has inspired hundreds of thousands of young people, both girls and boys, to pursue sport. Her historic night at Croke Park is not just a boxing event. It's a celebration of one of the most influential careers in Irish sporting history. Credit also goes to @MatchroomBoxing, @EddieHearn and @FrankSmith for helping build the platform that has made this landmark event possible. Family ticket options exist because children have always been part of Katie Taylor's story. If a young boy or girl wants to watch an elite athlete make history on one of Ireland's biggest stages, that's something to be encouraged, not ridiculed. Who knows? There might even be another future Olympic gold medallist sitting in the crowd. 🥊🇮🇪
