Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - 106 - Back to serving wine again via @YouTube
Daniel Vávra, director of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, is again defending AI after backlash over Nvidia’s DLSS 5. Vávra says “some people have literally gone crazy” over DLSS 5, He argues DLSS 5 can improve “lighting, shadows, skin texture, hair, and therefore DETAILS” through “neural network rendering.” “the whole AI situation is really funny” and claims “absolutely every developer” uses AI in some form. “The reality? Of course that EVERYONE uses it! Every one! Absolutely every developer across many companies that I’ve spoken with over the past year uses AI. Programmers can’t get anything done without it anymore.” He also claims most developers are creating their own AI tools for models, art, and screenwriting. “You know who uses it the most? Usually the most talented people I know.” Vávra says these developers are “the ones who are least afraid and who see its huge potential.” He believes AI could shorten development times, arguing “no one wants to work on a game for a decade.”

Daniel Vávra, director of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, has tested the leaked version of NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 in the game According to Vávra, the leaked version does not change character geometry or alter their appearance. Instead, it uses existing data to improve lighting and detail, particularly on characters. The biggest improvements he noticed were: -Much better skin and facial detail -More realistic-looking skin lighting -Stronger ambient occlusion -Shadows from hats, helmets, hoods and small character details such as buckles and pouches -Better and darker shadows within hair -Some improvements to shadows and textures in the environment and vegetation Vávra says the result makes the characters look much closer to how the developers originally intended them to look, and its not AI-slop

Helldivers 2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Metro Exodus, Vampire Survivors, and more are coming to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog this August.
Warhorse Studios, developer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, has confirmed that the next game in the Kingdom Come series will be a full open-world RPG. Warhorse PR manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling said the studio is currently working on two open-world RPGs, one in the Kingdom Come world and another set in Middle-earth. The new game is expected to release between April 2027 and March 2028, based on Embracer Group’s current schedule. Warhorse has not called the game “Kingdom Come: Deliverance III,” leading many fans to think it could be a new story with different characters instead of a direct sequel. “We have two open-world RPGs in development,” Reports also say that developer Prokop Jirsa will help lead the future of the Kingdom Come franchise, while Viktor Bocan is working on the studio’s new Lord of the Rings RPG.

Warhorse Studios knows that some players may stop playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance because the games are made to be difficult on purpose. Creative director Prokop Jirsa discussed this design choice. “Our design approach is a little different,” Jirsa explained. “For example, during playtesting—which you should do, as it’s really useful—they measure points of friction. They identify where people get confused or angry, and note the percentage who would stop playing at that moment.” “The usual answer is to remove the friction. We don’t work like that. We feel that if you overcome intentional friction, it helps you, because you feel better about yourself.” Jirsa added that they accept losing some players: “You will lose players who are not there for any friction. They just want a smooth experience, and there’s nothing bad about that. Smooth experiences have their place… but we are intentionally different.”

Warhorse Studios, creators of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, are facing backlash for using AI in their work. The issue started when longtime translator Max Hejtmánek said he lost his job. He worked on English versions of dialogue, quests, item names, and marketing. He said the studio replaced his role with AI to save money and work faster and people got upset Warhorse has replied to the criticism and says it only uses AI in early steps of making the game and does not replace human workers with AI. Leaders keep saying they are hiring new translators, calling them “actual humans” many times. They promise to keep using real people for important creative tasks.

Daniel Vávra, the creator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance and head of Warhorse Studios mocked Ubisoft after the company’s latest layoffs and financial results. He pointed out that Ubisoft still has around 16,600 employees, while Warhorse Studios has about 250. According to him, that means Ubisoft’s workforce is equal to roughly 70 studios the size of Warhorse. “Ubisoft has 16 600 employees after layoffs. Ooops. Thats about 70 Warhorse sized studios. That could be 10 KCD2 sized games, each developed for 7 years, released every year!”
