Morales for Prov Mayor fundraising event in NYC described by organizers this way: "New York City Democratic Socialists of America ran the table on primary night two weeks ago, winning nine out of ten of its contested races including two congressional seats. The impact of that victory is being felt far beyond the five boroughs. On June 30, Democratic Socialist Melot Kiros defeated a 30-year incumbent to win a congressional seat in Denver, Colorado. Democratic socialists are also running hard in Democratic primaries in Detroit, St. Louis, Kansas City and South Florida.  On Thursday, more than 100 democratic socialists squeezed into hot, clammy bar in Crown Heights, Brooklyn to join a fundraiser for David Morales, a 27-year-old Rhode Island state legislator who is running to be the next mayor of Providence, Rhode Island, a city of 200,000 people with a large student population and sky-high housing costs that is ripe for a leftwing takeover.  Speaking to the feeling in the room that now is a time of unprecedented opportunity for the socialist left in the United States, the event’s emcee, Daniel Denvir, host of The Dig podcast who lives in Providence, vowed that if elected, “David is going to turn Providence into a laboratory for municipal socialism.” The fundraiser was organized by Denvir along with prominent members of New York City DSA, though it was not an official chapter event. Along with Denvir, the crowd heard from a pair of New York City DSA-backed electeds, Assembly member Emily Gallagher and State Senator Julia Salazar. Morales then took the mic and fired up the crowd." NOTE: Daniel Denvir, who introduced candidate Morales, is a Fellow at Brown University’s Watson Institute.
